Perhaps in the future with spare funding and more astro image work, I'll spring for the program.Įdited by Jovian Admirer, 03 November 2018 - 06:29 AM.Our simple laser photo engraving plugin for Affinity Photo is designed to make photo prep easy and fast for beginner and professional laser engravers! Though initially developed for prepping and outputting files for the Glowforge laser, this Adobe plugin works exceptionally well with other brands of laser engravers such as Trotec, Epilog, Universal, Boss, Mira, and more. It is definitely quite a sophisticated program geared toward astronomy, but can be used for other areas as well. I've looked at PixInsight in the past, after having used the LE version some years back. Not having it isn't a deal breaker, and I was pleasantly surprised that most of the Google Nik Collection seemed to work well in the program.
Since I couldn't find a workaround for my initial question, I did send a request that duplicate document be added in one of the upgrades, so hopefully this feature will be added soon. It still has areas that need improved, but the developers seem quite responsive addressing user concerns. In conclusion, I find it being a closer Photoshop replacement than any other I've ever tried. I was able to quickly gain an understanding of many of its tools and the similarities/ differences when compared to Photoshop. This past week, I decided put the program through its paces by processing one of my typical foliage images. The tool developers might offer macro conversions, but I doubt this will happen unless it becomes significantly economically advantageous for them.
Worse comes to worse, I may at some point be able to track down an unopened CS6, but I think this is next to impossible too without shelling out lots of $$$. Lacking the "duplicate image" function, for example, rules out most of Carboni's unless an alternative way is found that also macro records, which I have not found to be the case so far.
I am also finding that to be the case, but my manual emulations so far have had stumbling blocks such as indicated in my original post. Already did googling and came across that and other options, but none specifically address the atn to macro conversions, other than to say that it is not possible. Maybe this will help? I've got Affinity and Carbonis' tools in CS3 also, but haven't tried moving it over as just haven't used Affinity all that much yet. Your help and suggestions are welcome.Ī quick google about transferring actions to Affinity comes up with several hits.
The CS6 trial gives me 30 days to work out the differences, so perhaps that will be enough. I'd hate to have to give up Annie/ Carboni tools entirely, but unless I can work out the differences, I may have to. This does produce a copy of the original image, but then I lose the steps in the macro. A newly introduced feature in Affinity Photo allows you to create unique text art using the Pen tool. Can anyone suggest a workaround? I tried copying to clipboard and then opening a "new" image in Affinity. First hitch is Affinity doesn't have a "duplicate image" function and most of Caboni's steps involved this as one of the initial steps. There are five options: AFPhoto, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and OpenEXR. I am currently using Adobe CS6 trial to view the macro steps in Carboni's while I try and manually emulate each function while recording a macro in Affinity. Next, choose which file formats you want to output to. Let me get a little specific here and maybe someone can help work out an alternative. If you want to try and use your Photoshop plugins with Affinity Photo anyway, youll first need to change this setting. Problem is that there is no way to directly convert from an atn file to the macro format Affinity uses, and even if there was, there are enough differences between the programs that I don't think the conversion would still work. I have several action based plug ins that I used to use, such as Annie's and Carboni's. While I'm finding the program quite capable and about the closest equivalent to Photoshop that I can find, I am having trouble. Recently had to stop using Photoshop and acquired Affinity Photo.
